Hello! I am a proud Chabot College alumna that transferred to UC Berkeley as an Chicanx Studies Major. I currently run both El Centro's and CLEA's Instagram accounts! Consider following us at @ElCentroChabot and @SomosChabot to get a glimpse of our events and everything we do. Beyond work, I enjoy crafting, building legos and going to the movies.

I've worked at Chabot since 2009 in the Learning Connection and know all about our tutoring & academic success/support program. I hire all our tutors every semester, so I also know a lot about on-campus employment. Outside of work, I love to hike, camp, and visit all the National Parks (a bucket list goal for me!)
I’m the HSI Director, Director of El Centro, and President of the Chabot Latinx Employee Association (CLEA). I grew up in Hayward and East Oakland, and that background really shapes how I show up in my work and community. When I’m not on campus, I’m usually hanging out with dogs, watching or reading sci-fi, or trying out new recipes. I’m always happy to connect with Latinx faculty and staff—whether you want to collaborate with El Centro, share your experiences, or just make connections across campus.
On the far side of campus we work to support students as they take their steps in STEM - regardless of major. Come visit at the STEM Center for good stories, Hayward history, STEM support, or if you just want a space to get away.
Entrepreneurship club advisor.
I have a Ph.D in Civil & Environmental Engineering from UCLA (Go Bruins) and I am excited to serve the students of Chabot and share my experiences. If you need to get in contact with me, please email me or come visit Building 2000.
Javier Espinoza Barajas was born in Michoacán, México, and came to the U.S. at sixteen with a backpack full of hopes and a curiosity that never quite turned off. After graduating from Mt. Eden High School—while simultaneously taking classes at Chabot—he discovered anthropology and immediately fell in love with the way it makes the familiar feel strange, and the strange feel familiar. Javier went on to earn his B.A. in Social Cultural Anthropology (with a side quest in Education) at UC Santa Cruz, and later completed his M.A. at CSU Los Angeles. His passion for culture and identity even took him back to México to study abroad at UNAM in Mexico City—an experience that deepened his commitment to understanding the many worlds people carry with them. Today, Javier is an Anthropology Professor and the PACE Coordinator at Chabot College, where he brings enthusiasm, humor, and heart to the classroom. He’s dedicated to empowering students to explore diverse perspectives, tell their own stories, and connect what they learn to the real world—because anthropology isn’t just a subject…it’s a way of seeing life.
As a community college counselor since 2000, Sandra’s passion is to share her culture and educational experiences. As the Puente Counselor/Coordinator, she teaches college success courses every semester. She includes culturally relevant and social justice issues into every lesson. She has coordinated and led Latinx programming on campus before Chabot was an HSI campus and as an active member of CLEA - the Chicano Latino Education Association at Chabot.
What’s up, y’all! My name is Angel Lopez, and I’m a product of Hayward. I transferred from Chabot College to UC Riverside in 2020 and graduated in June 2023 with a B.A. in Sociology. I love connecting with students and sharing my story as a first-generation Chicano male who graduated high school with a 1.6 GPA, so they can see what’s possible. Now, I get to support and guide students toward higher education, and I’m always happy to help; please feel free to reach out if you’d like to hear more about my journey or need general guidance. In my free time, I’m usually watching or playing sports, especially soccer!
My work consists of specializing in degree audits and academic record review.
Pedro spent his early childhood in Mexico, where he was born. He arrived to the Bay Area along with his parents and four siblings in the late 1980s, where they have since settled. After graduating from James Logan High School he earned his B.S. Degree in Communications at Cal State, San Luis Obispo; followed by a Masters Degree in Library and Information Science at San Jose State. As an Outreach & Instruction Librarian, his primary role is to facilitate access to information—regardless of format.
Drop by my office, 403V, to talk about Communication courses, degrees, and/or tutoring. I look forward to meeting you.
My name is Adriana Aguilar, I’m a Part-time general counselor. As a first generation college graduate I know being the first in your family to go to college can feel exciting and overwhelming. I’m here because I love helping students feel they belong in education and can accomplish their goals. I’m on campus on Wednesdays and Fridays and look forward to connecting!
