Yang Liu
Adjunct Faculty
Yang Liu earned her PhD in Second Language Studies from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, specializing in technology-assisted language curriculum design. She has taught Mandarin Chinese, English as a Second Language, and graduate-level courses in second language studies. Across these roles, she emphasizes learner-centered instruction that encourages meaningful communication and engagement.
Her doctoral research focused on designing and implementing an augmented reality (AR) place-based Mandarin learning game for a Chinese as a Second Language program. This project combined mobile AR technology, location-based tasks, and interactive storytelling to immerse students in authentic language use beyond the classroom. By examining how such designs support learner motivation, collaboration, and language development, her work contributes both practical strategies and theoretical insights to technology-mediated language education.
